Despite its location under a freeway overpass in the Mission District, Woodward’s Garden remains a gem, with its intimate atmosphere and seasonally driven California menu. The devoted chef-owners do not allow themes or pretensions to distract from the menu, which may feature grilled hangar steak and other Niman Ranch meats, local salmon, or sautéed sea bass. An extensive wine list complements the menu. Pots and pans hang over the counter of the open kitchen, and artwork and sconces adorn the walls.
