About Williamstown, Massachusetts:
A French and Indian War hero, Colonel Ephraim Williams, Jr., left a bequest in 1755 to establish a "free school" in West Hoosuck, provided the town be renamed after him. In 1765, the town name was changed to Williamstown, and in 1793, the school became Williams College. The life of this charming Berkshire Hills town still centers around the college.
