Looking a bit like a beached ocean liner, the Seaport is joined to the World Trade Center by an overhead walkway and serves as a base hotel for many conferences, conventions, and sales events. The ship metaphor only goes so far: the soothing, modern-styled rooms are much larger and better appointed than most staterooms. The surrounding area will be a bustling part of the city by 2010, or so developers promise, but the Seaport is currently a bit removed from the downtown action. Frequent shuttles to South Station and the financial district help ease the sense of isolation, as will a soon-to-be-completed train line. The health club is large and well equipped, and the restaurant is one of Boston’s best for upscale seafood dining. The Seaport is also convenient to many casual fish restaurants near Fish Pier and to the summertime concert pavilion on the harbor. Canine guests are registered just like humans, and the lucky ones munch on dog treats from guest-room minibars.
