Explored by Samuel de Champlain and later settled in 1783 by Loyalists from New England, this popular seaside resort is a beautiful village rich in history. On a peninsula projecting into Passamaquoddy Bay, fishing, swimming, sailing, and rockhounding are favorite pastimes. Feast on fresh lobster, watch the tides swirl in, visit the specialty shops, or wander down the streets past many buildings erected before 1800. The white-framed Greenock Church, begun in 1822, and the Court House (1840) and Gaol (1832) are worth special visits.

The Fundy Isles dot the bay, the most famous of which is Campobello. Here, Franklin Delano Roosevelt spent his summers from 1905 to 1921 when he was stricken with infantile paralysis. Tours of Roosevelt's cottage in the International Park are available.

Northeast toward St. John, the road to Blacks Harbour affords views of lighthouses, lovely beaches, and covered bridges. From this village, a ferry leaves for Grand Manan Island, the largest of the three islands. This is a popular vacation destination with picturesque lighthouses and tiny fishing villages nestled in the barren seaside cliffs.
