About Santa Barbara, California:
Spanish charm hangs over this city, with its colorful street names, Spanish- and Moorish-style architecture, adobe buildings, and beautiful houses and gardens on the slopes of the Santa Ynez Mountains. It faces east and west on the Pacific Ocean along the calmest stretch of the California coast. Although the Spanish explorer Vizcaino entered the channel on Saint Barbara's Day, December 4, 1602, and named the region after the saint, a Portuguese navigator, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, is credited with the discovery of the channel in 1542. Its large harbor and breakwater can accommodate many boats and offers boat rentals and excursions. A Ranger District office of the Los Padres National Forest is located in Santa Barbara.
