About San Jose, California:
At the south end of San Francisco Bay, 50 miles from San Francisco, San Jose is known as the "Capital of Silicon Valley." San Jose was founded as Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe in the name of Charles III of Spain; the first American flag was raised above the town hall in 1846. The city was one of the first to be incorporated in California. Before California was even a state, San Jose became the first state capital; the first state legislature assembled here on December 15, 1849. In recent years, it has become an important electronic and aerospace center. It is also the home of San Jose State University.
