Within 10 miles of Rangeley there are 40 lakes and ponds. The six lakes that form the Rangeley chain--Rangeley, Cupsuptic, Mooselookmeguntic, Aziscoos, Upper Richardson, and Lower Richardson--spread over a wide area and give rise to the Androscoggin River. Some of Maine's highest mountains rise beside the lakes. The development of ski and snowmobiling areas has turned this summer vacation spot into a year-round resort.
