This renowned, landmark restaurant has
served porterhouse steaks since 1887 and is
still one of the city’s top tables. Don’t expect
elegant surroundings with your expertly
charred dry-aged slab of beef, though. This
place is bare bones, with exposed beamed
ceilings, worn tables and chairs, and waiters
who are as well seasoned as the beef. Do
expect a hefty check when all is said and done.
In addition to the marbled steaks, there are
sides like German-fried potatoes and creamed
spinach. If you make it over for lunch, try
New York’s best burger, made from fresh
ground beef and served with slices of tearjerker
raw onion and a thick beefsteak tomato.
