When a superlative spa refuses to rest on its laurels by constantly adding improvements, we plan on becoming regular customers. This much-loved spa at the Peninsula has just undergone a complete renovation in conjunction with spa consultants ESPA. It’s part of a collaboration that began in 2006 with a superswanky re-do of the spa chain’s flagship Hong Kong property. The sparkling new addition here is the only ESPA spa in the city, and the only place to try signature treatments like the Yin Uplifter, designed to rid you of chills with a stone massage and application of clay mixed with cinnamon, licorice and ginger before you’re placed in a linen wrap. Meanwhile, the Yang Soother treats overheated or sensitive skin with a body treatment that mixes chrysanthemum, black lychee and marine mud or algae that leaves skin as smooth as silk. (Both treatments last for two hours.) The commanding space on the 21st and 22nd floors of the hotel—with skyline views, 12 treatment rooms, one couples’ suite and private relaxation lounges—is as relaxing as it gets. Locker rooms offer aromatherapy showers plus steam, sauna and thermal suites.
