Celebrity chef Todd English’s eclectic restaurant
in the W Union Square Hotel has an
open kitchen, an open hearth fireplace and
deep, oval banquettes. The menu stars English’s
standard, but well-presented, Mediterranean
formula: boldly flavored dishes that
are impeccably prepared and artfully presented
on the plate. His signature tart filled
with olives, goat cheese and sweet caramelized
onions is a winner, but the menu also
offers lamb, fish, homemade pastas and pizzas
from the wood oven. Sadly, the service
is decidedly lackluster.
