Many of the summer festivals held in Manitoba reflect the varied ethnic settlements in the province. Most representative of all ethnic backgrounds is Folklorama, a festival of the nations, which takes place in Winnipeg in August.
Manitoba is also known for its 12 provincial parks and numerous recreation and heritage parks. Riding Mountain National Park is located near Dauphin. Fishing is good from May to September, and water-related activities can be enjoyed in the many resorts and beaches on Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba, and lakes in the provincial parks.
Outstanding attractions in Winnipeg include the zoo in Assiniboine Park, the Forks National Historic Site, the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The internationally acclaimed Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Opera, and the Manitoba Theatre Centre have made Winnipeg a mecca for all who enjoy fine music and theater.
