The phrase “ultramodern” was invented for the Jet. Retrofitted in the tall, narrow space of a former apartment building, the dimly lit lobby of this boutique hotel gives you an idea of what you’re in for. To the right are the tables and open counter of Velocity, where guests are served crepes and organic coffee each morning. To the left, stretching almost the entire length of the lobby is the futuristic Flow Bar, backlit in soft colors that change every few minutes. Guests step around a handful of tall, round cocktail tables to get to the inconspicuous reception desk. There are just 19 rooms in the Jet, in which standard amenities are anything but. No coffeemakers here; just French plunge pots. No ice buckets; just funky, round, insulated pitchers. No clock radios; instead, each room has a CD alarm clock with a library of CDs and a flat-screen TV. Throughout the hotel, the lighting is soft and low, even in the small fitness room and the two wireless workstations. The Jet is a study in sleek.
