This place is big—and there are only five guest rooms. The ground floor consists of a parlor, huge dining room, kitchen, and entertainment room with a 61-inch TV. The entire third floor is a big old ballroom. Doesn’t every bed-and-breakfast have one? The Lumber Baron Inn was built in 1890 by an immigrant who made his considerable fortune in, yes, lumber, and each room of this mansion consists of a different wood—cherry, sycamore, oak, maple, poplar, and walnut. Every guest room has a different theme, but they all have ceilings covered with wallpaper that replicates old Victorian prints, created especially for the inn. Rooms also have separate showers and whirlpool tubs. And that third-floor ballroom, with its 20-foot vaulted ceiling, small kitchen, and bathroom? It’s used for anything from a romantic dinner for two to the weekly murder mystery dinner hosted by the inn.
