The bold cuisine of China’s Szechwan province is gloriously prepared at Le Piment Rouge, an open, airy, contemporary restaurant located in the former Windsor Hotel. Set in a historic turn-of-the-century building, the restaurant has an up-to-the-minute design and features towering arched windows and an enormous wine rack on display in the center of the dining area. Signature dishes include spicy peanut butter dumplings (a recipe the restaurant is credited with inventing in Montréal) and General Tao chicken served with a special (read: secret) homemade sauce. Le Piment Rouge is a hotspot, drawing local politicians, financiers, and the token celebrity on occasion. Beer is always a good choice with Chinese food, but Le Piment Rouge also stocks more than 3,000 wines if you’re craving something with a cork, not a bottle cap.
