About Lake Placid, New York:
Mount Marcy, the highest mountain in New York State (5,344 feet), rises in the Adirondack
peaks that surround the town. On Lake Placid, the village also partly surrounds Mirror
Lake. This is one of the most famous all-year vacation centers in the East and the site of the
1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The Intervale Olympic Ski Jump Complex has 229-foot
and 296-foot ski jumps constructed for the 1980 games, now open to the public and used
for training and competition.
