Housed in a historic, exposed-brick landmark building in the Civic Center area (it’s a perfect place to dine if you’re attending the opera, ballet, or symphony), Jardiniere is one of the city’s true culinary gems. Chef/owner Traci Des Jardins (formerly of Montrachet in New York) opened her ode to Californian-French fare with Pat Kuleto, and together they have created a restaurant that delights in both cuisine and design. An oval-shaped mahogany and marble bar; heavy velvet drapes; a sweeping staircase; and moody, bronze-hued lighting lend richness, warmth, and opulence to this dramatic two-tiered space. Des Jardins is a rare talent; not only does her daily changing seasonal menu surprise and thrill, but her commitment to local, organic, and sustainable foods shows her dedication to more than just satisfying taste buds.
