Jackson, uninhibitedly western, is the key town for the mountain-rimmed, 600-square-mile valley of Jackson Hole, which is surrounded by mountain scenery, dude ranches, national parks, big game, and other vacation attractions. Jackson Hole is one of the most famous ski resort areas in the country, known for its spectacular views and its abundant ski slopes. It has three Alpine ski areas, five Nordic ski areas, and miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Annual snowfall usually exceeds 38 feet, and winter temperatures average around 21° F. The Jackson Hole area, which includes Grand Teton National Park, the town of Jackson, and much of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, has all the facilities and luxuries necessary to accommodate both the winter and summer visitor. Jackson Hole offers winter sports, boating, chuck wagon dinner shows, live theater productions, symphony concerts, art galleries, rodeos, horseback riding, mountain climbing, fishing, and several whitewater and scenic float trips. Two Ranger District offices of the Bridger-Teton National Forest are located in Jackson.
