This European-style boutique hotel is situated on the upper two floors of a midblock property on busy Columbus Avenue. The lobby is reached by a steep, narrow staircase leading from a green-canopied entry; there is no elevator. With Beat Generation heroes Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac having once been residents, the hotel is a throwback to the San Francisco of the 1940s and 1950s. The small, colorful guest rooms are uniquely decorated, with armoires, sheer canopies over the beds, and coral-colored walls.
