Secluded and romantic, elegant and sumptuous, this 1799 inn is just a short walk from the center of Greenwich. Purchased in 1997 by Thomas and Theresa Henkelmann, renovations were completed in 2001, and the historic New England Inn now stands as a tribute to Theresa’s interior decorating skills and Thomas’s magnificent cooking (the Thomas Henkelmann restaurant is off the lobby). Outside, the Homestead looks for all intents and purposes like a traditional New England country inn. But step inside and you’ll find an eclectic mix of antique furniture, imported pieces, and one-of-a-kind touches. The ground floor of the main house includes a cocktail lounge and the restaurant Thomas Henkelmann (see); suites and rooms (or “chambers”) are on the second and third floors. They are decorated with a mix of imported pieces from India, China, Bali, and Morocco combined with solid cherry bespoke furniture, Frette linens, and original artwork. And although there is a 24-hour concierge, there's no need to ring if you’ve forgotten your bedroom slippers. The bathroom floors are heated, of course.
