Holderness is the shopping center and post office for Squam Lake (second-largest lake in the state) and neighboring Little Squam. Fishing, boating, swimming, water sports, and winter sports are popular in this area. The movie On Golden Pond was filmed here. A Ranger District office of the White Mountain National Forest is located here.
