Located in an old creamery building on the Fox River, the Herrington’s roots date to 1835. That’s when the land was first occupied by James and Charity Herrington, who settled here because there was “choice timber and a good spring.” There still is a good spring, but people tend to appreciate the choice timber in its current-day form: as beautiful trees that line streets, grace parks, and surround inns like the Herrington. This lovingly restored limestone building has 61 rooms, and although each has its own fireplace, terrace, private bar, and oversized whirlpool bath—and heated marble floor—no two rooms are decorated alike. Four-poster beds (some with canopies), chaise lounges, a corner suite with a cozy sitting area in front of double glass doors leading out to the porch...each room is soothing and a delight to return to after a busy day. But the best is yet to come: evening turndown service brings warm cookies and chilled milk—as one would expect, given the Herrington’s creamery roots.
