To truly get away from it all, escape to the historic Greyfield Inn, built in 1900. Accessible by private ferry from Fernandina Beach, Florida, this inn is a tranquil place to enjoy Cumberland Island's natural beauty and abundant wildlife, including wild horses and many species of birds. The mansion's veranda comes complete with rocking chairs for whiling away the afternoon, while elegant cuisine is offered in the inn's candlelit dining room in the evenings. Furnished with family heirlooms and antiques, the guest rooms and suites vary widely; note that not all have private baths. Room rates include breakfast, picnic lunch, gourmet dinner (jacket required, so pack appropriately), and snacks throughout the day, as well as unlimited use of the inn's sporting, fishing, and beach equipment. A two-night minimum stay is required.
