Packed with Japanese patrons, Chinatown’s first Japanese restaurant, Ginza, feels like a scene out of Tokyo. Waitresses are decked out in beautiful kimonos, and Japanese pop music fills the room as sushi chefs focus on their intricate craft, constructing maki at the speed of sound, their sushi knives flying in a blur of steel. The menu offers several house maki that tend to be gigantic, like an overstuffed roll filled with fried soft-shell crab, cucumber, avocado, flying fish roe, and spicy mayo; but it also includes more traditional Japanese (that is, normal-sized) sushi rolls and authentic barbecue and hot pot meals.
