Situated between Nob Hill and Union Square, this historic 1912 hotel makes much of its wine theme, from the evening wine reception in the lobby to guest rooms named after California wineries (the Niebaum-Coppola penthouse suite features a wood-burning fireplace). The décor is soothing, with dark woods and green, beige, and cream bedding and draperies. Many rooms have bay windows, and all are nonsmoking. Prices are reasonable given the hotel’s comfort and location near Chinatown and Union Square.
