A center of Norwegian culture in the United States, Decorah is the seat of Winneshiek County, one of the state's most picturesque areas. Within a short distance are Siewers and Twin Springs and towering spires of limestone along the Upper Iowa River. The town is named for a Native American chief who aided settlers during the Black Hawk War.
