About Dana Point, California:
This quiet, unhurried town is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego. It has nearly 7 miles of prominent ocean-facing bluffs and an exquisite man-made marina, was once named Capistrano Bay. But in honor of the noted author Richard Henry Dana (of Two Years Before the Mast fame), it was renamed. The harbor, with its commodious accommodations for mooring, has more than 50 specialty shops and restaurants; it is a magnet for seagoing Californians and tourists from the world over. It is also the main funnel to the 62-acre Doheny State Park, a popular beach facility for surfing, snorkeling, tidepool examination, and camping.
