Chefs Mark Peel and Nancy Silverton have scaled culinary highs with Campanile, a California-Mediterranean restaurant with LA legend status. Charlie Chaplin once owned the historic building, but since 1989 it has adopted a southern European grace. Red tile floors, a fountain, and a skylit atrium in the dining room all add to the setting, reminiscent of an old Mediterranean village. The casual dining area faces the open kitchen, and the formal dining area is in the back. Menus change frequently, but always rely on seasonal ingredients in dishes like dandelion salad, battered soft-shell crab, charred baby lamb, and seared spot prawns. Come Monday night for convivial family-style dinners and Thursdays for sandwiches on bread from neighboring venture La Brea Bakery.
