About Burlington, Iowa:
Burlington, a river port, is a shopping, industrial, and farm center. It traces its history back to the days when it was called Flint Hills by Native Americans and served as neutral ground where tribes hunted flint for implements. Zebulon Pike raised the Stars and Stripes here in 1805, and a trading post was built in 1808. The city became capital of the Wisconsin Territory in 1837, then capital of the Iowa Territory from 1838 to 1840. Its retail trade draws shoppers from three states; factories turn out tractors, chemicals, electronic instruments, furniture, and other products.
