Twenty-five miles northwest of Chicago, Arlington Heights possesses numerous public parks, tree-lined residential neighborhoods, and a thriving downtown possessing an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants. The community was founded as Dunton in 1836, later incorporating as Arlington Heights in 1887. Today, the village may be best known for Arlington Park, where the Arlington Million thoroughbred race is held annually in August.
